The Syrijet is a device that adminisgered dental local anesthetic with a puff of air instead of the dreaded needle.  Patients that are afraid of needle injections in their mouth really love this device.  For everyone the injection process is painless.  Patietns experience a rapid pop form the puff of aneshtetic that is delivered via air pressure into the gum.

Digital 3-D X-Rays

In his ongoing effort to bring you the best of what dentistry has to offer,  Dr. Shvartsman is the first general dentist on Long Island to offer the benefit of Digital 3-D x-ray scans to his patients.  The Galileos Cone Beam system was installed May, 2010.

Now Dr. Shvartsman’s patients will fully benefit  from the revolutionary cone beam Digital 3-D technology of the Galileos. At State of the Art Comfort Dentistry the doctors and dental hygienists are no longer limited to interpreting 2-D x-rays and make “educated guesses”.  A quick 14 second outside the mouth scan is all it takes. Patients will not have to suffer through 18-22 uncomfortable individual inside-the-mouth x-rays. This is especially great news for people with a high gag reflex, small mouths or who have difficulty taking conventional x-rays.

With the Galileos images Dr. Shvartsman can see inside the bone and teeth in 3 dimensions, making diagnosis more exact and accurate.   This translates more predictable and safer treatment outcomes. The Galileos gives vastly more information with 4 times less radiation than a complete set of digital x-rays and 80-100 times less radiation than traditional CAT scans. In addition, both jaws and the sinuses are clearly seen with the 3-D Galileos scan, while a complete set of 18-22 individual 2-D x-rays only show the teeth and a little bit of the surrounding bone.  In fact, physicians such as ENTs, are now referring their patients to Dr. Shvartsman for Galileos scans.

If you have lingering pain or a problem that eluded diagnosis, we welcome you to take advantage of superior diagnosis with the Galileos 3-D cone beam technology at State of the Art Comfort Dentistry. We are proud to be the only General Dentistry office on Long Island to offer the Galileos 3-D x-ray scanning technology to our patients.

Laser Dentistry

Dr. Shvartsman of Smithtown, Long Island, uses Dental Lasers as part of his dedication  to providing you with the most comfortable dental care possible. That is why we offer Laser Dentistry as an alternative to traditional techniques. We currently use 4 different lasers in our laser dental practice.

Laser Cavity Scanner: The Diagnodent
Most dentists use a sharp-pointy pick to check for cavities. You may have this instrument stuck in your tooth in the past. Not only can this be painful, but a sharp-pointy pick coming at your face is not a comforting experience if you are already nervous at the dentist. The fact is cavity detection with this technique is only about 60% effective; many small cavities go unseen and can become large cavities if left untreated. This can lead to unnecessary root canal treatment, crowns or extractions.

In our office we use the Laser Cavity Scanner called the Diagnodent. This laser is over 90% effective in painlessly finding event the smallest cavities early, when they can be treated conservatively with a small filling. In many cases you do not even need a shot! We are thrilled to offer this gentler and more effective laser dentistry diagnostic tool to our patients.

Laser Fillings: The Er:Yag Dental Laser

This dental laser allows us to treat cavities without the use of shots and Novocain. Over 90% of patients do not feel anything at all during treatment, and those who do say it wasn’t bad enough to need a shot. You can have a filling done and go have a meal, give a speech or meet with a client without the worry of looking and sounding funny from a numb lip and face.

Laser Gum Disease Treatment: Nd:Yag laser

Gum disease is caused by bacteria deep under your gums and around your teeth.  Moderate and advanced gum disease is traditionally  treated with surgery whrre the diseased gum and bone is surgically cut away. Although this procedure shrinks the pockets the tooth roots are exposed. Many patients complain of tooth sensitivity nad increased root cavities anas well as esthetic concerns.

At State of the Art Comfort Dentistry  we offer a Laser microsurgery alternative: using the Nd:Yag Laser. This technology is extremely effective at vaporizing diseased gum tissue and bacteria from around your teeth. A Biologic adhesive clot is then developed with the laser to help reattach the gums back to your teeth. Tis is followed by Laser Bio-stimulation to speed up healing and reduce discomfort.  We have had great success with this form of laser gum disease treatment

DRILL FREE DENTISTRY : The ICON Revolution

Until now, dentists have had only two choices in the treatment of small cavities, dentally known as incipient caries: use fluoride to restore enamel through remineralization   OR “watch and wait” until it is time to “drill and fill.”  ICON represents an entirely new, revolutionary approach to treatment of incipient cavities – a resin infiltrant. Developed in Europe over the past decade, ICON is the subject of numerous international studies proving its effectiveness. This breakthrough micro technology fills and reinforces demineralized enamel without destructive drilling or painful shots.

Dr. Shvartsman is known for being at the fore font of dental innovation as well as his commitment to patient comfort. Now with ICON he can treat your small cavities without drilling, injections and “watching” the cavity get bigger.  ICON provides a revolutionary, never-before-seen option for treatment of white spots and incipient cavities between the teeth. Instead of taking a “watch and wait” approach, ICON can arrest the progress of early enamel cavities up to the first third of dentin – in one simple procedure, without unnecessary loss of healthy tooth stru cture, that means NO MORE DRILLING!

Fluoride therapy, as well as other remineralizing agents, take many months to accomplish and are not always effective because remineralizing protocols require daily application and are dependant on patient compliance. Besides, many of our patients are opposed to fluoride use. Mechanical removal of decay whether by drilling or laser almost always sacrifices healthy   healthy tooth structure.

White spots on your teeth are the result of weakened, demineralized enamel. They are often the first sign of the start of a cavity. Many patients find these white spots unsightly.   ICON can cosmetically remove white spots in just one visit! This provides a highly esthetic alternative to destructive treatments of cariogenic white spots – all in one simple treatment, with no drilling, no shots, no noise and in just 10 minutes per tooth!

ICON treatment enables Dr. Shvartsman to immediately treat cavities not yet advanced enough for conventional restoration and ends the “watch and wait” approach. It stops tooth decay progress without unnecessary loss of healthy tooth structure.  ICON allows for a conservative cosmetic treatment of unsightly cariogenic white spots in one short visit. There is no injection required, for optima l patient comfort. No drilling is necessary, eliminating the drilling noise and tooth destruction. Patients with poor compliance to remineralization protocols are excellent candidates. ICON is not just minimally invasive dentistry . . . it is micro-invasive. Ultimately there is prolonged life expectancy of the tooth.

Dr. Shvartsman is the first and only dentist in the Smithtown area to make this novel product to available to his patients.  Feel free to reserve an appointment to see if you are a candidate for ICON Drill-free dentistry. State of the Art Comfort Dentistry is now accepting new patients!

CEREC – Crowns in One Visit

Dr. Shvartsman lectures extensively on CEREC use and applications to his peers and is currently the President of the only Long Island based CEREC study club.  He uses his artistic talent to provide life-like all porcelain CEREC crowns, onlays and veneers in a single appointment.  In fact, many dentists and dental professionals have sought out Dr. Shvartsman to restore their teeth with CEREC.

Technology today is changing our everyday lives. Many people aren't aware that technology is also impacting dentistry in new and exciting ways. Cutting-edge innovations in dental instruments are requiring less time in the dental chair, causing less discomfort and creating satisfying results. One breakthrough instrument, called CEREC, allows dentists to quickly restore damaged teeth with natural-colored ceramic fillings, saving patients time and inconvenience.  There are over 10,000 CEREC providers in the united states and 25,000 world wide.  This is the future of dentistry.

Dr. Shvartsman utilizes Biomimetic Dental principles when restoring your teeth.  He fits the restoration to the  missing part of your tooth like a jigsaw puzzle. This is in sharp contrast to traditional Civil War Era technique, used by the majority of today's dentists, that fits the tooth to the restoration as done for traditional metal reinforced crowns where the tooth is drilled down to a nub or a stump n order to retain the crown.

We are proud to have upgraded to the latest CEREC technological upgrade the CEREC AC.  This new machine uses a new imaging camera: Blue LED for more accurate images and better resolution. That means more accurate and better fitting restorations for our patients.

What does this innovation mean for a patient?

A tooth-colored restoration means no more metal in the crowns causing black rings at the    or unnatural opaque looking teeth discoloring smiles. The restoration is natural-looking, compatible with tissue in the mouth, anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant. Dentists no longer need to create temporaries or take messy ,  impressions moulds that make you gag and send them to a lab. Because of this, the traditional second and third visit may be eliminated. Crowns do not need to be returned to the Dental Lab due to a bad fit. The CEREC has over a decade of clinical research and documentation to support the technology. The restorations have been proven precise, safe and effective.

How can I find out if this is an option for me?

Feel free to call  631-361-3577 and ask us about CEREC. We will be happy to answer your questions about this exciting new technology.
