Karen Lane RN, MSN,

Certified Biofeedback Specialist

Karen Lane has thirty years of experience in healthcare. She began her career right here in San Diego where she served as Executive Director of Nursing at Sharp Memorial Hospital for many years. Wanting more independence she founded Armstrong Lane Consulting which provided managed care consultation for hospitals, clinics and physician groups across the country. After a number of years running her own business she stopped working for a few years to live out an early dream of writing a book. In 2001, Karen returned to the workforce to partner in a care management startup company designed to assist those with chronic illness. At the end of her career she was responsible for the growth of this business in other countries around the world. At some point in this process, Karen developed a chronic disease herself and through a serious of synchronistic events was led to Biofeedback. She set about becoming educated in the area and started to work on herself, and others, as she learned and eventually attained formal Biofeedback Certification. Karen has since healed from her chronic disease and in large part credits her work on herself with the Biofeedback system…as well as Dr. Reese.

Karen has now retired from the corporate world of healthcare, although she keeps a hand in it via consulting and as a charter and current member of the Catalina Group, a healthcare innovation think tank. Karen is currently exclusively devoting her work to the practice of Biofeedback at LotusRain.

She can be reached at 619.806.0928 or at kl.karenlane@gmail.com

Can Natural Remedies Succeed Where Modern Medicine Fails?

Naturopathic medicine is an eclectic approach to health that incorporates traditional diagnostic techniques with natural therapeutic modalities. Emerging in the early 1900s as a unique medical discipline, naturopathic medicine is presently experiencing unparalleled interest as a complete approach to optimal health.

A primary philosophical concept of naturopathic medicine is that the body has the unique ability to heal itself, given the appropriate set of conditions. An example of these conditions includes an optimal diet, customized nutritional supplementation, and herbal and hormonal support for essential organ function. With these improvements, the body is able to achieve a higher state of well-being and disease recovery.

What Natural Healing Techniques are used by Naturopathic Doctors?
Naturopathic doctors have extensive training in dietary management, nutrition, botanical medicine, hydrotherapy, detoxification, chelation, IV's, hormone balance, physical medicine and homeopathy.

Why Choose a Naturopathic Doctor?

Naturopathic physicians are trained to provide primary care and/or naturopathic specialty care, with expertise in the use of integrative therapies and drug-nutrient – drug-herb interactions. Currently, naturopathic physicians practice in a wide range of in-patient and out-patient settings, such as the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, and frequently serve as expert advisors in the field of Complementary and Alternative Medicine. At the national level, they have played prominent roles in organizations such as The White House Commission on CAM, the advisory board for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) and the Medicare Coverage Advisory Committee.

Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic treatments can complement conventional medicine or be used effectively on their own. Naturopathic medicine is aimed at improving health and addressing illness in people of all ages through the use of natural therapies and medicines. It is the art, science, philosophy and practices of disease diagnosis and the treatment and prevention of illness.

Naturopathic medicine is distinguished by the principles that underlie and determine its practice. Methods are chosen upon the basis of patient individuality. Naturopathic physicians work to restore balance in a gentle and effective way, minimizing the potential for side effects. The aim of the naturopathic physician is always to respect and support the body's ability to heal itself.

Much as in the training of a conventional allopathic doctor (MD) naturopathic physicians (ND) attend a four-year, graduate-level naturopathic medical school, after which they must pass North American board examinations to obtain a license to practice medicine. The training of a naturopathic doctor develops unique skills in conventional and natural medicine, and provides patients with a knowledgeable advocate who can help them make informed choices about their health.
